Few acoustic guitars have made an impact like the J-45™—the most-recorded and best-selling acoustic model in Gibson’s history. Introduced in 1942 and affectionately known as “The Workhorse,” this legendary instrument stands at the heart of Gibson’s round-shoulder dreadnought family. Celebrated worldwide for its rich balance, warm low end, and strong projection, the J-45 continues to evolve while staying true to its legacy. The Gibson J-45 Standard offers a voice defined by impressive dynamic response, smooth mids, and a focused, punchy bass. It now features new Gibson-exclusive Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ electronics for exceptional plugged-in sound.
Crafted with a round-shoulder dreadnought body, the J-45 Standard pairs solid mahogany back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top for the unmistakable tone heard across decades of recordings. Multi-ply binding accents the top, while the back is finished with single-ply binding. The mahogany neck features a fast, comfortable SlimTaper™ profile and is joined to the body with a compound dovetail joint and hot hide glue, enhancing sustain and resonance. The rosewood fretboard carries 20 standard frets and is inlaid with classic mother-of-pearl dots. At the headstock, a mother-of-pearl Gibson logo is joined by premium Grover® Rotomatic® tuners and a TUSQ® nut, delivering smooth performance and dependable tuning stability. A rosewood belly-up bridge fitted with a TUSQ saddle and bridge pins anchors the strings, while a teardrop tortoiseshell pickguard and gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish complete the timeless look that has defined the model since its debut.
The J-45 Standard is now fitted with the all-new Gibson-exclusive Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ pickup system. This active design utilizes two lightweight sensors mounted to the internal bridge plate, each paired with its own optimized preamp. The result is a natural, full-bodied amplified tone that faithfully represents the guitar’s inherent character, without altering its unplugged voice. The Baggs HiFi DNA system offers comparable gain-before-feedback to an under-saddle pickup. Discreet soundhole-mounted controls for volume and tone allow quick, intuitive adjustments on the fly, remaining virtually unseen by the audience. With its refined electronics and included hardshell case, the J-45 Standard is ready for both stage and studio use the moment it’s picked up.
